PDD South funds adults with developmental disabilities to live inclusive community lives. We believe that people with developmental disabilities should have good lives just like everyone else.
We also believe:
- The individual is the most important person to pick what kind of help he or she needs to be a part of the community
- Family and friends can also assist in choosing the best kind of help
We place our trust in these people to do what is needed and to identify the support that is needed to help the individual live the most inclusive life possible. That means that they choose the support that is best for them.
Sometimes achieving a good life means needing help from staff. More than 30 agencies in the PDD South Region are approved to provide a wide range of supports. Some individuals and families also choose to hire their supports privately. Some types of supports that are frequently requested and funded are:
- Community living supports
- Employment and other weekday supports
- Specialized supports
If PDD South provides funding for staff, we expect that staff will help in five important capacities:
- Staff should help individuals to live fully included and meaningful lives in the community.
- Staff should help individuals get what they need to live a good life and be responsive to changes that might occur.
- Staff should help individuals be involved with friends, family and the community.
- Staff should give individuals opportunities for new personal growth and development.
- Staff should let individuals take the lead in making decisions about help and community involvement.
